Pass Plus Website

You’ve passed your driving test - now you can drive on your own at last. But it doesn’t stop there; this is just the end of the beginning…

Getting your own car will give you the independence you need. For a new driver, the cost of insurance can be sky high.

Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test than at any other time in their driving career.

Age doesn’t matter – it’s basically down to a lack of driving experience.

That’s where PASS PLUS comes in!

When you successfully complete PASS PLUS you will usually qualify for a substantial discount on your motor insurance policy. Motor insurers who support the scheme offer discounts on

· comprehensive
· third party fire and theft
· third party insurance policies.

Visit the PASS PLUS website for a list of links to insurers taking part in PASS PLUS. When you contact them, you need to check that a PASS PLUS discount is available to you.

Pass Plus is a training course specifically aimed at new drivers, designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry. Pass Plus will build upon your existing skills and knowledge and teach you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, and can help you to become more confident on the roads

Pass Plus is made up of six practical modules which include:

Driving in town  Driving at night
Driving in all weathers  Driving on dual carriageways
Driving on rural roads  Driving on motorways

Anyone who has passed their practical driving test is eligible to take part in the scheme. You will not have to take a test at the end of the course but you will be continually assessed by your instructor as the course progresses.

You must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard, and you will then be awarded a pass plus certificate which when presented to your insurance company can earn you a substantial discount on your insurance premium. In certain circumstances this discount can be as much as 50% !
